A complete butt fusion welder includes a main frame, facer, heater, and hydraulic unit. Optional crane lifters are used for large-diameter welding. This article introduces the full setup using the FX630 as an example.
In HDPE pipeline construction, a complete butt fusion welding machine consists of several core components. Each part works together to complete the full welding cycle—from pipe alignment, facing, heating, to final fusion.
Last week, during our FX630 welding test in the factory, we captured a photo that clearly shows the full setup. Based on this scene, here is an overview of what a complete welding machine includes.
The main frame clamps the pipes and applies axial welding pressure.
·It typically includes:
· Three or four clamps (depending on the model)
· Guide rods and sliding structure
· Hydraulic connection points
Alignment, pressure application, cooling, and joint formation all occur on the main frame, making it the most critical part of the system.
The facer is one of the essential components of a butt fusion welder, responsible for:
· Facing and trimming pipe ends
· Removing surface oxidation
· Ensuring both ends are flat, smooth, and aligned on the same centerline
The FX series facer uses a full-gear transmission for stable cutting and extended tool life.
The heater prepares the pipe ends for welding by applying controlled and uniform heat. Features include:
· Even heating surface
· Accurate temperature control
· PTFE non-stick coating
· Safe, insulated handles
Stable heating is crucial to achieve a strong fusion joint.
The hydraulic unit provides:
· Clamping and pushing force
· Adjustable welding pressure
· Temperature display and timer functions
The FX series adopts an enclosed design to protect internal components from dust and moisture, making it suitable for real construction environments.
✔ Machine Body (Main frame)
✔ Facer
✔ Heater
✔ Hydraulic Power Unit
Together, they make up a complete system capable of performing full butt fusion operations.
In the FX630 setup shown in the photo, an additional lifting crane is used.
The crane helps:
· Lift the facer and heater
· Reduce operator effort
· Improve safety and efficiency on large-diameter jobs
For FX160, FX250, FX315, operators can lift the components manually.
From 500 mm and above, the facer and heater become significantly heavier, making lifting assistance practical.
Some contractors already have lifting equipment, so providing it as an option gives customers flexibility.
Therefore, the crane is offered as an optional accessory, chosen based on job requirements.
Standard Configuration:
1.Machine Body (Main frame)
2.Facer
3.Heater
4.Hydraulic Power Unit
Optional Accessory:
5. Crane Lifter
